Man United have reportedly taken an active interest in young Southampton left-back Luke Shaw according to Italian source TuttoMercato.

David Moyes has joined Jose Mourinho in the race for the teenage defender who may well have only recently signed a new long term contract but could perhaps still be lured away from the South Coast side for the right price.

Given that the Man United boss made official bids for Everton left-back Leighton Baines it is fair to say that this is an area the Scot is keen to freshen up and given that first choice starter Patrice Evra is 32 years of age one can see how a move to bring in a solid alternative would be a sensible path to take.

Shaw burst onto the scene last term, making 28 appearances in all competitions and the 18 year old has now secure a England Under 21 berth and continues to be a regular in the Southampton first team set-up this term and is clearly a player with a very bright future.

The Saints may struggle to keep hold of such a talented performer though it may well take a hefty bid to persuade the club to sell though clearly Southampton are well known for selling successful graduates from their academy with the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gareth Bale making big splashes in the upper echelons of the game following spells at the club.
