Newcastle are being linked with a move for Leeds United youngster Sam Byram, with the Daily Mail claiming the Magpies might bring him in this January despite his current recover from injury.

The 19-year-old is one of the best prospects currently emerging in English football, as he has earned a reputation as a dangerous attacking player for Leeds with his overlapping runs from right-back.

His displays have attracted attention from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City in the past, though he is yet to feature for Brian McDermott’s side this season due to an hip injury that could keep him out for several months.

This hasn’t deterred Newcastle, however, who are continuing to monitor his situation as he continues his recovery, as they are keen to sign a right-back as a backup to current first-choice Mathieu Debuchy.

Danny Simpson had been the club’s second choice in that position, though he was allowed to leave over the summer as he completed a free transfer to Queens Park Rangers.

Byram is not the only star from English football’s second tier that Newcastle have their eye on, with Alan Pardew’s side also being linked with Blackpool starlet Tom Ince and Derby midfielder Will Hughes in recent times.
