Stamford Bridge side join chase to sign Nou Camp custodian.
Chelsea are reportedly one of a host of clubs chasing Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes according to CalcioMercato.
The experienced Spanish international has publicly stated his intention to leave the Nou Camp next summer, when he will be available on a free transfer, and Jose Mourinho would appear to be keen on bringing in the 31 year old though he faces competition from the likes of fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Man City.
One would have to wonder why Mourinho would feel the need to chase Valdes given that he can currently call upon Petr Cech and also has the option of giving youngster Thibaut Courtois a chance to impress at the West London club.
The impressive Belgian international is into his third season on loan at Atletico Madrid and is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football. Mourinho elected to sign veteran Aussie Mark Schwarzer to offer cover for Cech this summer.
Chelsea have conceded just two goals in their opening four Premier League fixtures so a move to bring in another keeper does seem a little hard to fathom.
