Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on developments at the Bernabeu as Real Madrid prepare to listen to offers for midfielder Xabi Alonso according to Portuguese source Record.

The La Liga side are ready to sell the experienced Spanish international for as little as £4m in January knowing that by the summer the 31 year old could leave Real Madrid on a free transfer on completion of his contract, a contract he has as yet elected not to renew.

Alonso is currently out with a broken metatarsal but when he returns he could struggle to force his way back into Carlo Ancelotti’s first team set-up following a number of summer editions with the likes of Isco, Asier Illarramendi, Sami Khedira and in-form Croat Luka Modric all battling for central midfield berths.

Rodgers may take this chance to re-sign Alonso, who spent five successful years at Anfield before moving to Real Madrid, knowing that an experienced addition to his youthful squad could make sound financial sense given the cut-price deal it would take to sign the midfield schemer.

Serie A sides Juventus, Napoli and Juventus are also said to be keen on the World Cup winner who has made a total of 192 appearances for Real Madrid since making a £30m move to the Spanish giants back in August 2009.
