Manchester City are ready to pounce if city rivals Manchester United are unable to agree a new contract with exciting wide man Adnan Januzaj, according to exclusive reports in the Daily Mail.

The highly promising Belgium international has been in discussions with the Premier League champions about signing a new deal, however, these talks have now been going for the past six months, with still no resolution in sight.

Previous United head coach Sir Alex Ferguson had initiated the talks, however, the veteran Scot left his post at Old Trafford at the end of last season with the matter having yet to be finalised and now it has fallen on his successor, David Moyes, to agree a new contract with Januzaj.

The 18-year-old, whose current deal with the Red Devils now only runs until June 30 2014, has been involved with the first team since the start of the new campaign under new United boss Moyes, featuring as a substitute in both the Community Shield win over Wigan Athletic at Wembley Stadium last month, as well as against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

And the winger really caught the eye in both of those cameo performances, however, if United are unable to reach an agreement with the player, then it is understood that their mega-rich neighbours are ready to pounce and sign Januzaj in what would be a highly controversial swoop.
