The agent of new Lazio signing Felipe Anderson claims that there were a host of other clubs chasing the 20-year-old this summer, including Premier League pair Manchester City and Tottenham, according to talkSPORT.

The attacking midfielder is currently one of the best young players coming out of Brazilian football, and looks a good piece of business for the Serie A side, who snapped him up for just £6.6m from Santos in June.

However, he could well have ended up in England with either City or Spurs, as his agent Stefano Castagna says they were two of many clubs also keen to sign him, along with Atletico Madrid and unnamed clubs from Russia and Ukraine.

Anderson is yet to make his debut for Lazio due to an ankle injury, but top clubs may continue to monitor his progress in Europe once he breaks into the first-team at the Stadio Olimpico.

Castagna said: “Felipe Anderson is the present and the future of Lazio.

“Felipe is now eager and ready to repay the faith [president] Claudio Lotito and [sporting director] Igli Tare placed in him by signing him from Brazil.”

Manchester City were also linked with his fellow Brazilian and Lazio team-mate Hernanes this summer, with the 28-year-old another player still attracting a great deal of interest from around the continent, with January bids from Bayern Munich widely expected when the transfer window re-opens.
