Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has insisted that Lionel Messi has not demanded a pay increase and is confident that he and Andres Iniesta will agree to fresh terms in the not too distant future, Sky Sports reports.

Reports around the club have hinted that the Argentinian ace is looking to be offered an improved deal with a higher salary on the back of the recent media circus surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s new contract with Real Madrid.

The former Manchester United man is now the world’s highest paid player in the world of football and Barca chiefs were warned to prepare themselves for a meeting the diminutive forward.

However, Rosell has remained adamant that Messi is happy with the current deal he has at the Camp Nou, and has not made any drastic monetary demands.

He told reporters: “Does Ronaldo’s renewal affect Messi’s contract? Messi hasn’t said anything to us.

“He’s happy here and he’s at the best club in the world. No news is good news.”

Rosell is also hoping to be able to deliver some good news on Messi’s teammate Andres Iniesta soon, with the string pulling midfielder currently in discussions to extend his contract beyond it’s 2015 expiration date.

He added: “Iniesta’s renewal won’t be a problem. The wish of both parties is to renew the contract.”
