Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could take his search for a new striker to Palermo this January, as the Metro claim the Reds boss is targeting £4m Palermo striker Abel Hernandez.

The 23-year-old has been an impressive performer in Serie A for the last few years, though he could now be looking to move as the club suffered relegation to Serie B last season.

Hernandez has four goals in his first five games this season, and seems like a player who should be playing at the top level, which means Liverpool will be confident of luring him away this January.

Rodgers signed Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo over the summer, but had been hoping to bring in further additions to bolster his strike-force, with the long-term future of Luis Suarez at Anfield still in some doubt, as the likes of Real Madrid are expected to bid for him again when the transfer window re-opens.

Like Suarez, Hernandez is a Uruguayan international, with seven goals in ten caps for his country, showing that he is very much at home on the highest stage.

Hernandez had also been linked with a move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day, though this never materialised.
