9. Ander Herrera (Athletic Bilbao to Manchester United)
Although this transfer fell through in bizarre circumstances on summer transfer window deadline day, it appears that Manchester United’s interest in Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera was strong, and it seems likely that the 24-year-old will be a top target for the Premier League champions again when the transfer window re-opens in January.
A skillful and intelligent midfield playmaker, Herrera gave a superb showing in his last appearance at Old Trafford, as Bilbao emerged shock 3-2 winners in a Europa League tie there in 2012. The Spaniard looks the ideal candidate to replace the influence of the recently-retired Paul Scholes in the middle of the park, and with United really looking like lacking quality in that department at the moment, he would be worth the big money the La Liga side are likely to ask for him.
It has already been suggested that Herrera remains a priority for United, and the club’s fans will be hoping negotiations go a little more smoothly this time round!
