Manchester City and Chelsea are both keen on signing highly-rated Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin this January, with Borussia Dortmund also keen on the Uruguayan, according to talkSPORT.

Godin was in outstanding form for Diego Simeone’s side last season, helping them finish third in La Liga and beat fierce rivals Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey final, and is now on the radar of Europe’s top clubs.

Both City and Chelsea are in need of defensive reinforcements this January, and it is thought that the pair may also reignite their interest in Porto starlet Eliaquim Mangala when the transfer window re-opens, with both sides having tried and failed to land him during the summer.

However, they will now face competition from Borussia Dortmund for Godin, as the Bundesliga giants may be looking to bring in a replacement for their own in-demand defender Neven Subotic, who is a target for Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

A move to the Etihad Stadium may be tempting for Godin, as it would reunite him with Manuel Pellegrini, whom he played under during their time at Villareal.

Atletico won’t want to sell another key player though, having lost Radamel Falcao over the summer, and already selling Martin Demichelis to City on deadline day as well.
