Liga outfit Valencia are planning an audacious move to re-sign unsettled Chelsea midfield player Juan Mata when the transfer window finally reopens once again for business in the new year, according to reports in the Metro.

The in-demand Spain international’s current future at Stamford Bridge has been placed in great doubt of late after returning Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho opted not to start with the 25-year-old in the majority of the west London club’s matches so far in the new season.

In fact in total to date, Mata has featured in just the three games for the Blues in all competitions, two of which came in the Premier League, while the third arrived in Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup encounter with Swindon Town at the County Ground.

However, as yet the wide man has failed to either find the back of the net, or even lay on a goal for a team-mate, while questions have also been asked about Mata’s willingness to track back and help out his team’s back four.

All of which has led to a flurry of speculation recently about whether Mata will still be at the club come the new year, with the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United having all been linked with the Spaniard.

And now his former club are also said to be keen on re-signing Mata for £25 million in January, with the Liga giants believed to be open to the possibility of a loan move as well should the Blues prove resistant to the idea of a permanent sale.
