Reds to compete with Arsenal and Chelsea for PSG star.

Liverpool will hope to beat both Arsenal and Chelsea to the signing of talented PSG playmaker Javier Pastore this January, according to the Daily Express.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was keen to sign a midfielder of this type for much of the summer transfer window, though he missed out to Tottenham for the signing of Christian Eriksen, and to Borussia Dortmund for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Pastore is next on the Northern Irishman’s list, as he hopes to add more quality and creativity to a side that seems heavily reliant on Brazilian starlet Coutinho, whom Liverpool have badly missed in his injury absence.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been monitoring Pastore’s situation, as it seems likely that he will be available this January due to falling down the pecking order at the Ligue 1 champions this season under new manager Laurent Blanc.

The 24-year-old was the first major signing made by PSG after their lucrative Qatari takeover, which has since seen them attract some of the world’s biggest names to the Parc des Princes.

This increased competition for places could spell the end for Pastore, though the skillful Argentine is still a highly rated prospect around Europe, and won’t be short of suitors in the Premier League.
