Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will look to make the most of his club’s fantastic start to the Serie A season by making a move for a pair of Anfield talents in the January transfer window according to talkSPORT.

Benitez has seen his San Paolo side collect five wins and a draw from their opening six domestic league fixtures, as well as a home Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund, and now the Spaniard will look to strengthen his side’s squad with a move for Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel and midfield terrier Lucas Leiva.

Slovakian Skrtel was frozen out of first team action for much of last term but has found himself back in Brendan Rodgers’s first team plans after some solid displays, but could perhaps still be drawn by the chance to move to Napoli, especially if Benitez’s side are still competing in the Champions League by January.

Brazilian Lucas Leiva has also shown a real return to form this term, and is an ever present this term, and arguably of the two the player Rodgers will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of.

Napoli saw Edinson Cavani leave for PSG and some may have be concerned as to how the club would fare without their top scorer but the investment in Real Madrid trio Gonzalo Higuain, Jose Callejon and Raul Albiol certainly appears to be paying off.

Benitez brought both Lucas and Skrtel to Liverpool and as such could have a connection with the pair that could help lure them to Italy in January.
