Arsenal’s hopes of signing up-and-coming PSV Eindhoven wide man Zakaria Bakkali when the winter transfer window finally reopens for business once again for the year in January have taken a blow after it emerged that the Belgium wunderkind is set to sign a new deal with the Eredivisie giants in the new year, according to reports on talkSPORT.co.uk.

The exciting young winger has been creating plenty of headlines back in the Netherlands of late after making his PSV debut earlier this summer in a Uefa Champions League qualifying tie aged just 17, before then going on to score a hat-trick in a league encounter against  NEC Nijmegen in August in what was just his second-ever appearance for the club.

And not only that, but Bakkali’s treble also made the Belgium Under-21 international the youngest-ever player to achieve such a feat in Eredivisie history, and so beating the previous record held by Dutch star Arjen Robben.

However, any hopes that Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger may have harboured of luring the attacker to north London in the new year now appear to be over after it emerged that the PSV were set to offer Bakkali a new deal as soon as he turns 18 on Jan 26 to replace his current contract which runs until 2015.
