Arsenal have not given up on signing Demba Ba from Chelsea, and are prepared to make a loan offer for the Senegalese international in the January transfer window, according to the Metro.

The 28-year-old was a deadline day target for the Gunners in the summer, with Arsene Wenger keen to bring in a backup striker to in-form front-man Olivier Giroud, though Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho blocked the move late on after hearing that Arsenal had also completed a deal to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.

However, with Ba failing to get into the first-team at Chelsea, the former Newcastle man is set to attract further interest, with Roma and Atletico Madrid also pondering moves for him when the transfer window re-opens.

A highly prolific player during spells at West Ham and Newcastle, Ba has struggled to recapture his best form since joining Chelsea, and is now behind the likes of Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal, however, are short of options upfront and would face a crisis if Giroud were to pick up an injury, and will hope to tempt Chelsea with a loan move in January, with a view to a permanent £5m signing next summer.
