Stamford Bridge side target Baggies youngster.
Chelsea are set to make a January bid for West Brom wonderkid Saido Berahino according to the Metro.
The 20 year old has made a real impact since breaking into the Baggies first team this season, scoring five goals in six matches, including netting against both Arsenal and Man United.
Berahino is in talks with West Brom over a a new contract but interest from Chelsea may well cause boss Steve Clarke something of a headache, at the very least giving the striker a better basis for a lucrative deal or at worst resulting in the Burundi born forward leaving for pastures new.
Chelsea are ready to make a £5m opening offer for Berahino and will offer a wage well in excess of his current £850 per week.
Berahino has been a success at England Under 21 level and has hopes of making Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup finals squad, and a move to Chelsea would certainly aid that push.
Chelsea successfully landed West Brom youngster Isaiah Brown in the summer and will be looking to repeat the trick in January.
Mourinho has seen strikers Fernando Torres, Andre Schurrle, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o struggle for form, none of the quartet has scored a Premier League goal this season, and as well as being very much ‘one for the future’ Berahino has already proven he can make an impact in the short term as well.
