Having already raided his former club to sign Belgian powerhouse Marouane Fellaini, and with the pursuit of full-back Leighton Baines seemingly never ending, it appears that Man United boss David Moyes now has his sights firmly set on another Toffees star.

The Daily Star claim that Moyes is readying a £20m bid for midfielder Ross Barkley in the January transfer window.

Man United have been linked with an interest in Barkley for some time, indeed former boss Sir Alex Ferguson made an inquiry into the player’s availability when he was 17 years of age and just emerging as a real talent for the future.

The 19 year old’s fine form this term has led to a first senior England cap and Everton boss Roberto Martinez has shown a great deal of faith in Barkley, handing the youngster seven starts in the club’s opening seven Premier League fixtures.

Moyes may well be keen to freshen up his somewhat brittle midfield and the Scot will be more than aware of Barkley’s obvious potential. With Anderson failing to make an impact and Darren Fletcher still recovering from long term illness there is certainly scope for the addition of a new midfielder to boost the Man United squad’s strength in depth.
