Premier League duo Manchester United and Manchester City will go head to head in the race to win the signature of up-and-coming PSV Eindhoven wide man Zakaria Bakkali when the winter transfer window finally reopens for business for the year in January, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

The exciting Belgium Under-21 international has been making all the headlines of late in the Eredivisie after making his debut for the Dutch giants in a Uefa Champions League qualifier against S.V. Zulte Waregem  in August.

And, later that month Bakkali then went into the record books in Holland by becoming the youngest-ever player to score a hat-trick in the Eredivisie against NEC Nijmegen, in the process beating Bayern Munich winger’s Arjen Robben’s previous record.

However, with the Belgium prodigy still to sign a professional contract with PSV as he does not turn 18 until Jan 26, with rules in Holland stating that players must first reach that age before they are able to do so, both United and City are said to be waiting in the wings ready to pounce should Bakkali fail to agree terms with his employers in the new year.

And, despite the fact that PSV are believed to be preparing a three-year deal for the player, the Premier League duo are understood to be confident of being able to lure Bakkali to the top flight by offering the youngster better terms.
