AVB still hunting for new left-back.
Tottenham could be set to compete with Manchester United for the signing of Everton left-back Leighton Baines, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The England international has been in superb form over the last couple of seasons, and looked almost certain to be joining David Moyes in swapping Goodison Park for Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, though a move never materialised.
Still a target for United in January, Baines could also now be set to attract interest from Tottenham, who have also been linked with making a move for a new left-back.
Andre Villas-Boas is seemingly unconvinced by current first-choice Danny Rose in that position, and has been linked with the likes of Inter Milan defender Alvaro Pereira and Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao in recent months.
However, Baines may now be the focus of Spurs’ attention, as they look to continue their big summer spending when the transfer window re-opens for business in the middle of the season.
The 28-year-old is likely to cost close to £20m, with United said to be weighing up a £15m cash-plus-player bid for the Toffees star, which would see Antonio Valencia move in the other direction as part of the deal.
