Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been put on red alert with the news that Real Madrid could be persuaded to sell Karim Benzema for as little as £17m this January, according to the Daily Mirror.

The talented French striker has not been at his best of late, and has grown unpopular with a section of the club’s fans after some indifferent form, which could see him leave as the club target the likes of Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero in the January transfer window.

Arsenal had been strongly linked with Benzema during the summer, as they also targeted Gonzalo Higuain from the Spanish giants before he eventually made the move to Napoli, though their inability to bring in a new striker could see them re-enter the market for one when the transfer window re-opens.

Chelsea are also desperate for additions upfront, as they missed out on main target Wayne Rooney during the summer, and with backup plan signing Samuel Eto’o failing to impress so far at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United could also pounce as they continue to face uncertainty over the future of Rooney at the club, and with new manager David Moyes determined to win over his critics and secure a big-name signing to aid his side’s title challenge.
