Uruguayan Gus Poyet has agreed a three year deal to take over as manager of Sunderland according to the Daily Telegraph and on most gambling sites the one time Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder has been favourite to fill the vacant post for some days now.
The former Brighton boss takes over from Paolo Di Canio after the Stadium of Light side’s two week selection process and will be tasked with the job of turning around the Black Cats season after a horrific start to the current Premier League campaign.
Sunderland sit bottom of the pile, the only team in the Premier League to be without a victory, having collected just a single point from their opening seven matches of the season.
Joining Poyet at Sunderland with be his assistant from Brighton, Mauricio Taricco, and caretaker boss Kevin Ball is set to return to his old job with the Academy.
