Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could take his search for a new winger to Borussia Dortmund this January, as he weighs up a move for Polish international Jakub Blaszczykowski.

CaughtOffside can reveal that Liverpool have been monitoring the the 27-year-old’s situation this season, and the Reds feel they may be in with a chance of landing the talented attacker as he is no longer first choice for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Blaszczykowski first joined Dortmund in 2007, and had a mixed start to his career in the Bundesliga due to repeated injury problems, though he really shone for the side last season with 14 goals in all competitions as the impressive German outfit were surprise finalists in the Champions League.

However, with the arrivals of the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang this summer, Blaszczykowski’s place in Dortmund’s starting lineup is no longer assured, as he has started in just four of the side’s eight league games.

Known for his fine dribbling ability on the wing and fierce shooting with his left foot, Blaszczykowski remains a regular for the Polish national team, and has an impressive 14 goals in 63 caps for his country.

With Liverpool somewhat short on the flanks, they have been linked with a number of players ahead of the January transfer window, and also missed out on several top targets for that area during the summer, with the likes of Willian and Christian Atsu both joining Chelsea instead.

Rodgers did manage to bring in Victor Moses on loan from the Blues, and the Nigerian’s presence has been useful for Liverpool’s promising start to the season, though the summer departures of the likes of Stewart Downing and Oussama Assaidi have still left the club rather lacking depth in that part of the pitch.

Liverpool will hope to try their luck with an opening bid of around £8m for Blaszczykowski, who could certainly provide them with extra width and ammunition for their front players if he moves in January.

Rodgers’ side have started the season strongly and will hope to still be in the title race by the time the transfer window re-opens, and could raid the market again to ensure they can at least reach their minimum goal of a top four place.

The likes of Jeremy Menez and Javier Pastore are also options for Liverpool, though the Dortmund star could be one of the cheaper players on the market this winter.

Blaszczykowski has won two Bundesliga titles during his time with Dortmund, and his experience of helping a team over the finishing line to success may be a big factor in Rodgers’ pursuit of him.
