Newcastle United are reportedly taking a closer look at OGC Nice striker Dario Cvitanich, according to Newcastle fan site The Mag.

The Magpies have been low on striking options so far this season despite adding French speed merchant Loic Remy to the ranks over the summer, and manager Alan Pardew, along with Director of Football Joe Kinnear, are still scouring Europe for potential recruits for the January transfer window.

Reports in France have suggested that the club are monitoring the 29-year-old and will decide whether to make a move for him closer to the time.

Born in Argentina with Croatian roots, CvItanich has enjoyed quite a successful career. Starting out with Banfield in his homeland, he soon caught the attentions of Dutch giants Ajax. However, despite wracking up an Eredivisie title during his time in Amsterdam, he failed to get a hold on a regular first team spot and was loaned out to Mexican outfit Pachua.

He then made his way back home to join Boca Juniors where he bagged 10 goals in 32 appearances before making his way back to Europe for a second bite of the cherry with Nice.

Last season he scores 22 goals in 32 appearances with Nice and may now finally get his reward with a move to the Premier League.
