Top flight sides line up for young Championship defender.
Premier League trio Fulham, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion are set to go head-to-head in January in a race for the signature of Ipswich Town full-back Aaron Cresswell, according to Sports Direct News.
The 23-year-old had been a known target for Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert since last summer, but a move to Villa Park now seems unlikely since the Scot turned to Sevilla’s Antonio Luna this year and now has the Spaniard in competition with former Middlesbrough man Joe Bennett for a starting berth at left-back.
However, with Villa dropping out of the race the path has now been cleared for Southampton, Fulham and West Brom to face each other in a three-way race to secure his services.
Tractor boys boss Mick McCarthy had stated over the summer that he felt Cresswell would be going nowhere, but his impressive performances have continued from last season into the current campaign and it now appears unlikely that he will be able to keep the player at Portman Road for too much longer.
Cresswell incredibly has the most assists of any player among the top five divisions of the English game – including three during the recent victory over Derby County.
All three sides are looking to bolster their defence over the course of the season and may look to hand Cresswell a chance to show what he can do in the top flight.
