Bundesliga giants Schalke have ruled out the possibility of selling star player Julian Draxler during this January’s transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

The immensely gifted 20-year-old is rated as one of the best young players in world football at the moment, and is said to be attracting strong interest from a number of top clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of the transfer window re-opening in January.

However, after remaining firm on his future over the summer, Schalke look set to continue to fight off interest in their prized asset, who would likely command a fee of around £40m, which is rumoured to be his release clause with the German club.

After spending similar money on Draxler’s German international team-mate Mesut Ozil in the summer, Arsenal may be willing to splash out again this January, but Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has ruled out the possibility of a move happening this season.

“Julian Draxler will be at our club this season, that is for sure,” Heldt said.

“There will be no fuss regarding him during the January window as he is committed to our club.”

Draxler himself is also adamant that he is simply focused on playing well at his current club, having previously suggested he would not be looking to leave in the build-up to next summer’s World Cup to ensure he is playing regular first-team football to put himself into contention for a place in Germany’s squad.

He said: “I am focussed on playing well for Schalke 04. All the rest is something the general manager will be worried with!”
