Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal with Barcelona to sign goalkeeper Victor Valdes next summer, according to Parisian based website Le10Sport.

However, it is reports on the Twittersphere where the story is at its most rampant as several journalists have claimed that the deal has been put in place for the 31-year-old to make his way to Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish international will be available on a free transfer next summer when his current contract expires, thus bringing an end to his 11 year spell as the undisputed number one at the Camp Nou.

Club chiefs are still hoping to be able to persuade him to stay at the club, but Valdes has time and again reiterated his desire to test himself in a new league as well as sample life in a different culture.

If such a move were to take place then that could spell the end of the line for Petr Cech, who is still considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

It also raises question marks over what the future may hold for Thibaut Coutois, who is currently in his third consecutive loan spell with Atletico Madrid. Over the past few weeks he has stated his desire to play for Barcelona, and could be made available by the west London outfit to help soften the blow of losing one of the world’s best stoppers.
