Real Madrid are the latest club to be linked with a move for Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic, according to reports on ESPN.

The Serbian international has not been at his best for United this season, and his influence on the side in general has waned over the last few years due to repeated problems with injuries.

However, he remains a highly rated centre-back and has attracted attention from the likes of AC Milan and Juventus as the January transfer window approaches.

Milan’s interest in the 31-year-old may now have cooled as they look to be closing in on the signing of Adil Rami from Valencia, with the French centre-back set to join the San Siro side on an initial six-month loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

Real Madrid, however, are also on the hunt for defensive reinforcements this January after a slightly difficult start to the season at the back, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side leaking goals and falling five points behind main rivals Barcelona in the La Liga title race.

United may be willing to part company with Vidic as they also seek to revamp their back four, as they continue to be linked with Porto ace Eliaquim Mangala.
