Napoli send scouts to watch Basel defender.

Check in to Albania vs Switzerland

Serie A giants Napoli are to send scouts to watch FC Basel defender and Arsenal target Fabian Schar play for Switzerland in his country’s latest round of World Cup qualifying matches, according to Forza Italian Football.

Napoli are known to be on the lookout for a new centre-back this January, and have recently been linked with moves for Valencia’s Adil Rami and Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel, though they have now reportedly switched their attention to Schar, a highly promising 21-year-old who is also on Arsenal’s radar.

Arsenal have also been linked with Rami in recent times as Arsene Wenger is another manager in the market for defensive additions this January, and may now face competition from Napoli for the signing of Schar.

Napoli recently got the better of Arsenal in the transfer market, as they nipped ahead of the Gunners to sign Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid during the summer, when the 25-year-old had long been Wenger’s top target.

Arsenal won’t want to miss out again, and will likely keep a close eye on Schar’s situation as January approaches.

Schar has been a regular for his club since 2012 and has earned three caps for the senior Swiss national team, scoring three goals.
