Arsenal are said to be considering a January bid for exciting young West Brom striker Saido Berahino, according to reports in the Telegraph.

The 20-year-old has caught the eye this season after a highly impressive start to his career with Steve Clarke’s side, scoring an impressive five goals in six appearances in all competitions so far this year, in his breakthrough campaign in the club’s first team.

The youngster is currently in negotiations with the club over a new contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, which has alerted Arsenal to the possibility of landing him on the cheap this January.

Arsene Wenger has identified Berahino as the ideal solution to his problems upfront, with the Gunners currently lacking a backup player to in-form striker Olivier Giroud.

Whilst Berahino would have the quality to slot in immediately, his youth would also mean he wouldn’t necessarily command a regular starting spot at this stage of his career, and could work nicely as a squad player for the club for the time being.

West Brom will hope to tie the England Under-21 international down to a new contract before other top clubs inevitably circle around this top talent.
