Tottenham are reportedly set to complete a deal to sign Japanese international Keisuke Honda on a free transfer in January according to the Daily Express.

The 27 year old playmaker will see his CSKA Moscow contract end on December 31st and Andre Villas-Boas is said to have the upper hand on a host of interested parties with Spurs set to beat the likes of Liverpool, AC Milan, Juventus and AS Monaco in the race to capture Honda.

Honda is reportedly on a £70k a week deal at CSKA but will be handed a ‘substantial’ salary increase by Tottenham, who clearly will feel that such a contract offer is more than reasonable given they won’t have to spend a single penny to purchase the player.

Keisuke Honda is an adaptable talent who can play across the midfield and can also play in a supporting striker role.

Though Tottenham spent upwards of £100m on new additions this summer it seems clear that Villas-Boas is still keen to bring in fresh additions and given that almost the entire outlay on new signings was covered by sales the Portuguese boss should have funds to further improve his squad.
