However, it is still open to debate just how long the Scot will remain at the club.

Cardiff City head coach Malky Mackay is still in charge of the newly promoted Premier League club following a five-hour board meeting on Monday, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The highly rated Scot’s future with the Bluebirds has been in grave doubt ever since his close ally and the now former head of recruitment, Iain Moody, was surprisingly given his marching orders by the club’s owner Vincent Tan last week, with Alisher Apsalyamov, a 23-year-old friend of Tan’s son U-Jiun, replacing him in the role.

However, despite the 41-year-old’s reported displeasure at seeing Moody depart the South Wales club, he is still their manager, although Mackay’s agent Raymond Sparkes did have this to say on the matter: “Malky loves being at Cardiff City, but football is a precarious business and Malky’s decision to stay might not be matched by all the powers that be deciding that he should stay, so that’s pretty much in the hands of other people.”
