Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly confident of finally landing long term target Karim Benzema according to The Sun.

Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti may well feel it’s time to offload the French international, who has recently come in from some abuse from his own club’s supporters after a less than glorious start to the current campaign.

The 25 year old striker has had his ups and downs since leaving Lyon for Real Madrid back in the summer of 2009 but the departure of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli led to Benzema being the Spanish giants first choice striker, which should have perhaps given the powerful forward the confidence to make a real impact.

Benzema has however managed just two goals in the opening eight La Liga fixtures this term and if as expected Ancelotti looks to sign another big name striker in January then an offer from Arsenal for the Real Madrid man may well be accepted.

Wenger currently overly relies on in-form Gunners ace Olivier Giroud and the arrival of another attacking option in January could well aid the North London club’s attempts to end a lengthy silverware drought.

Benzema has scored 91 goals in 193 appearances for Real Madrid.
