Chelsea’s interest in FC Porto defender Eliaqium Mangala may well have just been given a massive boost following news that the French international has just hired ‘super-agent’ Jorge Mendes who handily also represents Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

The Daily Mirror believe this may well aid the West London side’s push to capture the 22 year old, who has a £40m release clause.

Mendes also has a history of helping secure deals involving Chelsea and Mourinho is known to be a big fan of the rock solid FC Porto man.

Last term Mangala was instrumental in his side’s run to the Primeira Liga title with the Estadio Dragao side conceding just 14 goals in 30 domestic league fixtures.

Mourinho may feel that Mangala is an ideal long term replacement for veteran defender John Terry and even though the Stamford Bridge boss can also call upon the likes of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic he may feel that the former Standard Liege man is a player with the potential to be a far better performer than those in the Chelsea ranks.
