Kieran Richardson believes Fulham should not sack manager Martin Jol despite their poor start to the season, according to the Daily Star.

The 28-year-old left-back says he is a big fan of the Dutch tactician, and has hailed him as one of the best managers he has ever worked under.

Fulham have just seven points from their first seven games and could face a relegation battle this year, leading to speculation that Jol could be close to the sack at Craven Cottage.

However, the former Tottenham boss has the backing from one of his key players at least, with Richardson saying: “Martin is up there with the best I have known, definitely one of the best managers I have been around.

“He has managed at top clubs. What initially attracted me to Fulham was the manager. Others here have obviously felt the same way about him.

“I have worked with Sir Alex, Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce and Martin O’Neill – managers who have been in the game for a long time.

“I think he is fantastic and I know the players believe he is the one to take us forward.

“He is under a bit of pressure at the moment but if we win at Palace we will have ten points and be in mid-table. Everyone will then be silent.

“The players would be upset if he were to be sacked.”
