Stamford Bridge side look to land Bernabeu star.
Chelsea have apparently been given the green light to make an offer for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira according to CalcioMercato.
Jose Mourinho may well feel a move to bring in his former Bernabeu charge could improve his midfield options and give him more of a steely edge in the centre of the park.
The 26 year old has been saddened by the departure of good friend Mesut Ozil, who left to join Arsenal in the summer, and doesn’t feel indispensable under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Mourinho may feel that Khedira is a preferable defensive midfield option to the likes of John Obi Mikel or Michael Essien and Real Madrid may be ready to sell the player in order to balance the books ahead of what may prove a busy January transfer window for the Spanish giants.
Khedira has made 136 appearances for Real Madrid since moving to the Spanish giants back in July 2010 and Mourinho will hope to once again be reunited with the tough tackling battler.
