Scottish midfielder close to return after lengthy spell out.Manchester United could be close to welcoming back key midfielder Darren Fletcher to their squad as the Manchester Evening News report that the 29-year-old has returned to training with the club.

The Scottish international has only played 13 times in nearly two years after being diagnosed with a chronic bowel problem in December 2011, and United have certainly missed his ability in the middle of the park.

With the likes of Anderson and Tom Cleverley unable to fill that void in the side, new manager David Moyes spent £27.5m on Marouane Fellaini during the summer, and the club continue to be linked with several other big names in that position.

However, Fletcher has been a key performer for the side over the last few years and could be a big boost for United if he is able to come back into the fold on a regular basis.

Fletcher, who has been with United for his entire career, is now back in training with the first-team and could make a comeback to playing within the next month.

The combative midfielder’s last appearance for the Red Devils came on Boxing Day last year as United beat Newcastle 4-3 at Old Trafford.
