Villa determined to keep hold of in-demand striker.
Aston Villa are determined to keep hold of Tottenham target Christian Benteke, and will reject the north London club’s latest offer of £28m for the Belgian striker, according to Sports Direct News.
The 22-year-old is one of the most highly-rated young players in the Premier League at the moment, having started life in England in superb form with 23 goals in 39 games last season after signing as a relative unknown from Genk in the summer.
His value has now shot up from the £7m Villa paid for him, and Tottenham in particular are hoping to add him to their squad this January as they seek additions upfront.
With only Roberto Soldado coming in during the summer, Andre Villas-Boas remains unconvinced that Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor are suitable backups for the Spanish front-man.
Benteke, who has also been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in recent times, has started this season in similarly fine form with five goals in seven games, and looks like a player capable of making the step up to a bigger club, as Villa could face another season fighting relegation.
The Belgian international played a big part in helping Paul Lambert’s side to survival last term.
