Premier League giants Chelsea are set to go head to head with Bundesliga duo Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund for the signature of highly rated young Wolfsburg winger Julian Brandt at the end of this season, according to reports in the Daily Star.

The exciting German wide-man has a contract with the Bundesliga outfit that now only runs until June 30 2014 and so Brandt will be available on a free transfer come the climax to this campaign were he and his employers to fail to agree terms on a new deal.

However, it has now been revealed by Wolfsburg that their attacking starlet has indeed decided to refuse their offer of a new long-term contract to remain at the Volkswagen Arena beyond next summer, and so with the 17-year-old set to be available now for nothing at that point, the race to land Brandt is said to be hotting up.

“Julian Brandt has turned down the offer to sign a new contract with VfL Wolfsburg,” a Wolfsburg spokesperson told Deutsche Presseagentur.

“As he is out of contract at the end of the campaign, Julian Brandt will therefore depart from VfL Wolfsburg.”

And now it is understood that Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho is keen on luring Brandt to Stamford Bridge for next season and as such, the self-styled ‘Special One’ is prepared to do battle with both Bayern and Dortmund in order to land the player.
