Inter Milan have spoken to Barcelona about the possibility of signing Alex Song this January, with the Daily Express also reporting that Arsenal are interested in bringing the midfielder back to the Emirates Stadium.

The 26-year-old spent seven years at Arsenal between 2005 and 2012, establishing himself as a key player for Arsene Wenger’s side, before he departed north London for Barcelona last summer for around £15m.

With Arsenal still short in midfield following his sale, Wenger is supposedly looking to bring Song back to the Emirates Stadium this January, though Inter have already made progress in their own pursuit of the Cameroon international.

Backed by their wealthy new owner Erick Thohir, Inter are expecting to make some high-profile signings when the transfer window re-opens, and are confident that Barca will allow Song to leave as they appear to have given up on him making an impact in their first-team.

Song has not managed to become a regular starter at the Nou Camp with some high class competition ahead of him in the pecking order, but is still highly regarded for his work at Arsenal, hence the interest from his old club and from Inter.
