Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho wants to sign Real Madrid midfield player Sami Khedira “at any cost” when the winter transfer window finally opens again for business for the year in January, according to Spanish sports daily AS.

The self-styled ‘Special One’ and the highly-rated Germany international worked together during Mourinho’s time in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the Portuguese signing the holding midfield player from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart in July 2010.

And in their three years together in the Spanish capital, Khedira became a hugely important player in Mourinho’s los Blancos side, so much so that the Blues boss is now said to be determined to lure the German to Stamford Bridge whatever it takes in the new year.

Khedira has registered an impressive eight goals and 11 assists in total in his 137 appearances in all competitions to date for the Spanish giants, including five goals and five assists in his 86 La Liga encounters for the club, and it is those kind of statistics that the Blues boss wants the player to bring with him to west London.

And, with a contract that runs until June 30 2015,  and no sign of Khedira wanting to extend his stay in Spain, Mourinho has every chance of being successful in his pursuit of his target come the turn of the year.
