Check in to Hannover 96 vs 1899 Hoffenheim

Liverpool have been linked with a surprise move for former Manchester United goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, according to the Daily Express.

The 24-year-old, now of Bundesliga side Hannover 96, spent five years at Old Trafford as a youngster, though he never made a senior appearance for the side, with his only experience in English football to date coming in a loan spell at Northampton Town.

However, he has improved immensely during his time back in Germany, becoming a key player for Hannover and attracting interest from the likes of Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach as well as from United’s arch-rivals Liverpool.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers already brought in a big-name goalkeeper during the summer transfer window, signing Simon Mignolet from Sunderland in a £9m deal, though he is keen to add another player in that position as Pepe Reina seems set to leave the club next year.

The Spaniard is currently on loan at Serie A side Napoli, and looks to have lost his place at Anfield, though he may attract interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.

Zieler has impressed Rodgers with his performances, and Liverpool don’t want to miss out on the chance to snap him up for just £7m, in a clause which expires before the 1st of May 2014.
