Ligue 1 giants Monaco could be ready to make another big-money signing as they pursue Manchester United and Chelsea target Claudio Marchisio, according to the Daily Express.

The Juventus star had been linked with a move away from Turin for much of the summer, with United manager David Moyes supposedly keen on the Italian as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes.

In the end, United missed out on Marchisio and a host of other top midfielders, and could be set to be disappointed again as Monaco step up their interest in the 27-year-old.

Marchisio scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists from the middle of the park last season, and would fit in nicely alongside some other recent big-name purchases by Claudio Ranieri’s side.

Backed by wealthy Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev, Monaco were able to bring in the likes of Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and Geoffrey Kondogbia during the summer, and continue to be linked with other big names.

Marchisio has been with Juve for his entire career so far and may be reluctant to leave the club, though the money on offer at Monaco will no doubt prove tempting as it has for so many other players recently.
