Out-of-sorts Real Madrid front man Karim Benzema has been making the headlines all across the Continent once again on Thursday, however, on this occasion for all the wrong reasons.
The highly rated France international led the line for the Spanish giants as they took on Serie A champions Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu in the group stages of the Champions League on Wednesday, in what was undoubtedly the most eye-catching fixture of the evening in Europe’s premier club competition.
And the match did not disappoint either, with Carlo Ancelotti’s men just edging out the ‘Old Lady of Italian Football’ 2-1 on the night to remain at the top of their group at the midway point of the qualifying campaign, with Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo netting a first-half brace to give los Blancos all three points.
However, Ancelotti and Co were made to endure a nervy end to the contest, even after the visitors were reduced to ten men in the second half following the straight red card shown to defender Giorgio Chiellini for an alleged elbow on Ronaldo, thanks to an absolutely astonishing miss by Benzema.
In fact, even watching it again it is hard to see just how the striker fails to hit the back of the net…
