Ligue 1 giants to join chase for Serie A star.
Big-spending Ligue 1 giants Monaco are set to compete with Liverpool for the signing of AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy this January, according to Sports Direct News.
The talented 20-year-old is rated as one of the best young players in world football at the moment, and has been linked with a whole host of clubs of late as he no longer necessarily looks to be first choice at the San Siro.
El Shaarawy managed 19 goals in all competitions last season playing either out wide or upfront, and his ability to score from a variety of positions has drawn comparisons with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Liverpool emerged as surprise contenders for his signature recently, though they may now face stern competition from Monaco, who are able to offer vast amounts of money with the backing of their wealthy Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev.
Claudio Ranieri’s side have been able to bring in big names such as Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and Geoffrey Kondogbia in recent times, and look set to continue their ambitious transfer work when the window re-opens for business in January.
El Shaarawy will now be a top target, and could join the likes of Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as recent star players to swap Serie A for Ligue 1.
