Serie A side keen on out of favour Emirates Stadium star.
Inter Milan have set their sights on Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen as the Serie A side look to strengthen their back-line according to Sports Direct News.
The 27 year old Belgian has been frozen out of first team action at the Emirates Stadium for the best part of 2013 and has made just one Premier League appearance this term with Arsene Wenger opting to use Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny as his first choice central defensive pairing.
New Nerazzurri boss Walter Mazzarri has seen his side start the current campaign in solid fashion, suffering just one defeat in their opening eight Serie A fixtures, this in marked contrast to the club’s lean form over the past few seasons.
Whilst Wenger may fight off interest in a very able back-up option Vermaelen may be concerned that his lack of first team action could affect his role in the Belgian national team set-up, all the more important with a World Cup finals on the horizon.
Vermaelen started just one in the last four World Cup qualifiers though this has at times been down to injury issues it’s a situation that could worsen if by next summer the former Ajax man is still bench bound and therefore a fresh challenge in Italy may tempt the former Gunners skipper.
