Liverpool could be in pole position to sign highly-rated midfielder Will Hughes from Derby County after loaning Andre Wisdom to the Championship club, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 18-year-old playmaker is one of the most sought after young talents in English football at the moment, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle also believed to be chasing him ahead of the January transfer window.
Liverpool also came close to signing Hughes during the summer transfer window, though a move never materialised, but they are now growing in confidence in their pursuit of the England Under-21 star after feeling that the loan of young defender Wisdom to Steve McClaren’s side may have sweetened the deal.
Hughes could cost as much as £15m already, after consistently impressive performances in midfield for the Rams, and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate to land this highly skillful player as he continues to build a promising young team at Anfield.
Right-back Wisdom is set to spend the rest of this season with Derby, and it seems possible that his arrival could give the Reds an edge over their rivals for this high in-demand player.
