Ligue 1 big spenders AS Monaco have reportedly set their sights on Man City captain Vincent Kompany according to CalcioMercato.

The Belgian international has had a frustrating start to the current campaign, during which he has reportedly fell out with the club over his national team commitments and the 27 year old has as a result started just four Premier League fixtures this season.

Man City have certainly missed the determined centre-back when he has been sidelined and Manuel Pellegrini will look to fight off interest in Kompany.

Now into his sixth season at Man City the former Anderlecht and Hamburg man may perhaps be tempted at the chance of a new challenge and may feel that AS Monaco are a club on a rapid rise to the top.

The principality side have started life back in the French top tier in stunning fashion and currently sit in second spot in Ligue 1 having retained their unbeaten start to the season to keep level on points with PSG.

Kompany has made 213 appearances for Man City since moving to the Premier League club back in August 2008.
