Tottenham remain interested in impressive Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Daily Star.

Spurs were keen on recruiting the Bosnian playmaker during the summer after already raiding Roma for Argentine winger Erik Lamela, but missed out on a double swoop on the Stadio Olimpico side.

However, Andre Villas-Boas hopes to continue spending when the transfer window re-opens at the turn of the year, and is still keen to sign Pjanic, who is valued by his club at around £20m.

Manchester United are also reported to have joined the chase for the 23-year-old, who has been instrumental in Rudi Garcia’s side’s incredible start to the season.

Pjanic recently scored twice in a crucial win over title rivals Napoli, and Roma currently lead the way in Serie A with a highly impressive nine wins out of nine games so far.

A skillful and creative player, Pjanic would be an ideal signing for United, who have been keen to sign a long-term replacement for the recently-retired Paul Scholes, though Spurs are sure to remain competitive in the transfer market.

Villas-Boas’ side may hold the edge in a deal as well, with Roma said to be interested in Spurs midfielder Lewis Holtby.
