Wigan Athletic boss Owen Coyle is hoping to step up his efforts at landing forgotten Aston Villa winger Marc Albrighton this week once the player recovers from a minor throat operation, Sky Sports reports.

Albrighton has not been able to feature much since Paul Lambert’s arrival having had rotten luck with a series of injuries. However, the manager is hoping to send the 23-year-old out on a short term loan in order to regain his match fitness.

Coyle is believed to be looking for more reinforcements to bolster his squad as they continue to look push for promotion back to the Premier League as well as maintaining a serious challenge in the Europa League too.

The Latics boss admitted that he has been eyeing the Birmingham born wide man for some time, and remains hopeful of being able to work with him soon.

“I’ve been trying to bring a couple of players in to boost our squad and we will continue to pursue that in the next week,” he said.

“(Albrighton) is a very good player, he is a player I tried to sign at Bolton a few years ago but he’s an Aston Villa player and until Paul decides otherwise then that’s how it is.

“But we are always in the market for good players and he is certainly one of those.”
