German side Borussia Dortmund have set their sights on Arsenal attacker Lukas Podolski as Jurgen Klopp no doubt prepares for an inevitable exit of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.

TuttoMercato believe that the Westfalenstadion side are keen on the 28 year old German international, who has had an up and down time of it since move to the Emirates Stadium last summer.

Podolski made 25 Premier League starts in his first season at the North London club but was subbed on all but two of those occasions though did contribute with 11 goals and nine assists. Thus far this term the former Koln man has had injury concerns and has as a result played just twice and one has to wonder how the player will figure in Arsene Wenger’s plans when he does return to full fitness.

Wenger seemingly sees Podolski as more of a wide attacker but the arrival of Mesut Ozil to the club could perhaps limit the experienced forward’s role in the first team set-up.

In-form La Liga side Atletico Madrid are also said to be keen on Podolski, who knows that regular first team football will be key to his hopes of cementing a prominent role in the German national team set-up at next summer’s World Cup finals.
